Who? -1 on 1 Meetings are held between the IACT Coordinator and every participant who has registered to take part in a Birthright campus trip. Don't confuse this 1 to 1 meeting with the mandatory interview every Birthright participant has to have. Usually this is done via skype or phone with the Tour Operator, but some times IACT Coordinators do conduct these in person on campus as well – on which case it can be combined here.
When? - Ideally 1 on 1 Meetings should be held not long after the participant has registered. They have shown interest in our program, so we respond by showing them interest in them!
Where? - 1 to 1 meetings should be held in a coffee shop or restaurant on campus and should take around 30 minutes. Use your budget to treat each student to a hot, cold drink or snack as well.
How? - The format should will be an informal conversation but you should take notes either on a note pad or using your CJP provided I pad. Make sure to have questions prepared in your mind & on paper and be prepared to roll with the punches as they talk abut their background and relationship with Israel and Jewish life.
What should you bring? - Besides your smile, it's a great idea to bring with some interesting Israel related articles, books and resources and even a give-away. It is also an idea to bring a sample Birthright itinerary to help increase excitement for the trip.
Conducting 1 on 1 meetings is an important aspect of your work and will help you to strengthen your bond with the students on your campus.
Why? - 1 on 1 meetings are an important part of the IACT strategy. The concept is for you to get to know as many students on a 1 to 1 basis as possible.
